Summary for foreign students:

Møre Folk High School // One Year. Your Adventure.

Welcome to Møre Folk High School, beautifully located in Ørsta, on Norway’s wild and wonderful west coast — surrounded by fjords, mountains, and the open sea.
Here, the world becomes your classroom. From the dramatic peaks of the Sunnmøre Alps to the vibrant streets of Tokyo, Bangkok, or Bali, you’ll experience a year filled with travel, creativity, friendship, and growth.

At Møre, we believe learning happens through living.
You’ll explore the world hands-on — through nature, art, sport, culture, and community.
There are no grades and no exams, only challenges, reflection, and unforgettable experiences.

A School Between Fjords, Mountains and the World

Our campus lies in the heart of Sunnmøre, just a few minutes from Ørsta-Volda Airport (Hovden). From the school yard you can see the fjord shimmer below steep alpine peaks — and a few minutes away you can surf the Atlantic waves at Stad.

Every day brings new contrasts: ski touring on powder-covered mountains, kayaking across mirror-calm fjords, editing a short film in the media lab, or planning your next journey abroad.
Our motto says it all:

“From the Sunnmøre Alps – out into the world.”

What Makes Møre Special

  • Travel with meaning. Every class includes one major study trip (3–4 weeks) and a joint school trip to warmer destinations in November.

  • Breathtaking surroundings. The Sunnmøre Alps offer world-class nature for hiking, skiing, climbing, paddling, and photography.

  • A community like no other. You’ll live, learn, eat and explore together — friendships built here last for life.

  • Personal growth. With no grades and no pressure, you can focus on discovering who you are, what you enjoy, and how you want to make an impact.

  • Sustainability and awareness. We work actively with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (especially #3, #4, #10, and #12) and travel in ways that promote understanding and respect between cultures.

Our Study Lines 2026–2027

Each line combines classroom learning, fieldwork, creativity, and travel. You can choose one that matches your passion — or challenges you to try something completely new.

Surf & Summit // Climbing, Skiing and Surfing

From alpine peaks to tropical beaches — experience two worlds in one year!
This is the original Bali line at Møre, and since 2017 we’ve sent hundreds of students to the legendary island for surfing, culture and adventure.

  • Surfing in Norway’s best surf spots — and on Bali’s world-class waves

  • Snorkeling, free diving and volcano hikes

  • Yoga, skateboarding and adventure life outdoors

  • Living simply — in tents, hammocks or under the stars

This is the line for you if you want adrenaline, nature and balance — all in one unforgettable year.

Get stronger, happier and more active — together!
This line mixes outdoor adventure and sports with teamwork, training, and pure joy of movement.

  • Strength and endurance training, indoors and outdoors

  • Hiking and top-tours in the Sunnmøre Alps

  • Kayaking and swimming in fjords

  • Relaxation through massage, yoga, and recovery sessions

Whether you’re new to training or already an athlete, you’ll discover that activity and wellbeing belong together.

Asia Unlocked // Language, Culture and Food

Unlock the mystery of Asia — from China’s ancient traditions to Japan’s modern culture.
This line combines language learning, travel, and cultural immersion in two of the world’s most fascinating countries.

You’ll learn basic Chinese and Japanese, taste your way through local cuisines, and explore how old traditions meet modern life.
We dive into history, philosophy, pop culture, anime, manga, calligraphy, and Asian cooking.

Study Trip: 3–4 weeks in China and Japan, including Beijing, Shanghai, Kyoto, and Tokyo.
Expect temples, bullet trains, local encounters — and a deep understanding of East Asia from the inside.

Perfect for the curious traveler who wants to learn, taste, and understand the world.

Wander & Wonder // The World as Your Classroom

Plan, create and live your own travel adventures!
On this line, you and your classmates design real journeys — from idea to itinerary, budget to booking, reflection to storytelling.

You’ll learn how to travel safely, responsibly and creatively, while gaining insight into cultures, people and the planet.

Study Trip: 3–4 weeks in destinations chosen by the students themselves — maybe Southeast Asia, South America or a mix of countries.
You’ll experience travel as a way to learn, to connect, and to grow.

Wander & Wonder is for explorers who want to see the world — and understand it.

Frame by Frame // Story, Film and Photography

Tell your story through film, photography and social media.
You’ll work creatively with modern tools and professional techniques to create visual stories that move and inspire.

Learn to make films, photos, reels and podcasts — from concept to finished product. Try drone photography, animation, and storytelling for social media.

Highlights:

  • Film production and editing

  • Photography and creative composition

  • Animation, podcast and content for SoMe

  • Collaborations with other lines — use the mountains, waves or culture around you as your scene

Study Trip: 2–4 weeks in Japan — explore anime, manga, film studios and the creative pulse of Tokyo and Kyoto.

If you dream of expressing yourself through images, sound and story, this is your playground.

Peaks & Pixels // Fjords, Mountains and Gaming

When gaming meets nature — and real adventure begins!
This unique line blends e-sports, streaming, and digital culture with outdoor life in Norway’s most spectacular landscape.

Develop your gaming skills — technically and strategically — while learning teamwork, communication and content production.
Then take a break from the screen and head outdoors for hiking, climbing, surfing or kayaking in the Sunnmøre Alps.

Study Trip: 3–4 weeks in Japan — dive into Tokyo’s gaming culture, retro arcades, anime districts and e-sports arenas. Then travel north to the snowy mountains for world-class powder skiing and cultural encounters.

Peaks & Pixels is for those who want balance: focus and freedom, pixels and powder.

Sea & Soul // Body, Mind and Balance

Find peace, energy and joy — without performance pressure.
Sea & Soul is about living well, moving freely and enjoying both activity and stillness.

You’ll explore yoga, mindfulness and outdoor life close to the sea. Try kayaking, SUP, hiking, ball games and gentle training — all with focus on wellbeing, not competition.

Study Trip: 2–4 weeks in Southern Europe, to destinations with sun, culture and activity. Maybe surfing in Portugal, yoga in Spain or snorkeling in Greece — wherever we find inspiration and warmth.

Sea & Soul is perfect for those who need a breath of fresh air, friendship and renewal.

The Common Journey – “Møreturen”

Every November, the entire school travels together to a warm destination for one week of community, activities and sunshine.
It’s the perfect break from the Nordic winter — a chance to build new friendships across all lines and start the year with shared memories.

Life on Campus

Life at Møre Folk High School is about community, creativity and everyday adventure.
You’ll live in cozy dorms close to the fjord, share meals in the dining hall, and join in social evenings, theme nights and local trips.

We believe in inclusion and kindness — everyone belongs, no matter background or belief.
Evenings often bring movie nights, volleyball, board games, or spontaneous guitar sessions in the common room.

You’ll also take part in elective courses: music, ceramics, storytelling, photography, and outdoor skills. The electives change every year depending on teacher passions and student wishes.

Travel with Meaning

At Møre we travel with purpose.
Every journey is connected to learning and sustainability.
Students and teachers work together to reflect on how travel impacts the places we visit — environmentally, socially and culturally.

Travel isn’t just about going far — it’s about understanding deeply.
